Workshop «Water Isotopes: From Weather To Climate»: Program and presentation details

There are now more than 100 registered participants for the workshop, out of which about 60 participants registered for poster or oral presentations. We believe this will be a great basis for fruitful scientific exchange during the hybrid workshop!

Below, we provide important information about the workshop, including the preliminary oral and poster program, the format of oral and poster presentations, and further organisational details.

The completed presentations will be uploaded to our youtube channel.

During the 3 days of the workshop, we have 3 keynote presentations, and 18 short talks, and 36 posters.  Presentations will generally take place in the time window from 12-15 CET (11-14 UTC). The detailed schedule with links to online sessions for talks, discussions, and posters will be made available to registered participants only.

The 3 days are organised into thematic sessions:

1) Advances in observing isotopic variability from weather to climate time scales
2) Water isotope models and observations for atmospheric processes and surface-atmosphere interaction
3) Advances in the modelling and interpretation of isotopic signals and isotope records on (paleo-)climate time scales

We have assigned each of the orals and poster to one of the thematic sessions. For those authors who agreed during registration, oral presentations will be recorded and made available at an online platform (youtube) to all participants. The online poster session will take place on the platform gather.town. Posters will be accessible online throughout the conference to all participants. More information on the poster sessions, the assigned feedback, and the discussion rounds will follow later.

Due to the hybrid format, we would like to ask all presenting authors to carefully read our specific instructions:

Oral presentations

The format for short oral presentations is 12 min + 3 min for discussion. The time for invited presentations will be 25 min + 5 min. We will allow for more discussion time in case of many questions, and have therefore set up only 3 speakers per 60 min time slot. A zoom link will be provided for all participants, and presenters will have to share screen to give their presentation. Talks will be recorded only if speakers have agreed to do so during registration. We will make the recorded talks available on youtube as soon as possible for all participants. Presenters may chose to make their presentation slides available as a PDF document. If so, we will host the PDF on the conference website (with password protection). Local hubs decide if the presenters should be standing or sitting during their talks, but will always be asked to share screen.

Poster presentations

Poster presenters should prepare a poster in landscape format. We will use gather.town as a virtual poster platform. We have experienced previously that this platform works (surprisingly) well, in fact quite similar to an in-person poster session. Poster presenters are asked to provide a PDF and PNG file (ca 1200×1000 pixels, or similar) of their poster by 7 Nov 2021. We will then be able to prepare the online session and host the PDF file on the conference website (password protected). If poster presenters wish, they can also provide us with a link to a pre-recorded short presentation about your posters. We will then add a link to your presentation to the conference website. Please do not send us your video files, you will have to host the video file somewhere yourself. Just provide us with an url that we will link to from the conference website. Local hubs can organise their additional live poster sessions, if desired. The local hub organisers will provide more detail here.

Local hubs

Local hubs will be organised in Bergen (contact: harald.sodemann@uib.no), Zürich (contact: franziska.scholder-aemisegger@usys.ethz.ch), Tokyo (contact: kei@iis.u-tokyo.ac.jp) and possibly Bremerhaven (contact: martin.werner@awi.de). The local hub organisers will contact the registered participants directly about organisational details regarding the local hubs. Remote participants who want to join a local hub instead should directly contact the local hub organisers listed above.
